Year: 2015
Medium: Curatorial and artistic project, press conferences, web site complemented by other on-line social media, mixed media art works
Description
Press Room was a curatorial and artistic project conceived around the 2015 Venice Biennale in collaboration with several English artists. It was produced during the Biennale's preview week and then a second time as a participation in the Creative Time Summit held at the Arsenale during the summer. The project aimed to mirror the structures of the press via press conferences and a presence on social media, including Facebook and Twitter. Artistic responses were a substitute for journalistic press articles.
During the press conferences, “breakfast briefings”, conceptual briefs were presented by curators, artists and other art-world professionals and the briefs were then discussed. Participating artists were asked to respond to the briefs artistically in any form or medium that they felt suitable during the course of the Biennale. The results were then disseminated through Press Room's media channels.
The curators of the project, in addition to organising the events , establishing a graphic identity for the project, and managing the media channels, prepared briefs themselves and artistically responded to briefs by other participants.
