Description
49° 36' 14"N 6° 87' 15"E reflects on a place, the place of a temporary exhibition, Colourful Black, held May-July 2018, at an abandoned house in Luxembourg slated for demolition and dubbed the Schwaarzt Haus for the length of the exhibition. The images present the space in one of its states of abandonment, the one just before the preparation of the exhibition, while the work takes its title from the geographical coordinates of the building.
The work depicts the building's walls, but not in a way that one usually sees them. Each image shows only a minute fragment of a wall macro photographed. In this way, the images become abstract landscapes of a great variety and full of imperfections of all kinds. As such, in most cases, it becomes difficult to identify the subject of the images or even realise that the subjects are walls. Even so, several images provide clues, such as a fragment of wallpaper or a tile to help guide the spectator into identifying the subject of the images. Included in the installation is an image of the wall on which the work was installed before it was repainted for the exposition.
