Year: 2017
Medium: Interactive Installation
in collaboration with Catherine Duboutay
Description
Virtually Fusioun was realised as a commission for the Food for Your Senses festival in Kirchberg, Luxembourg in August 2017. It was a collaboration with Catherine Duboutay. Food for Your Senses is an annual international alternative music and arts festival. The work was installed in a disused shipping container placed at site for the purpose of the event.
In Virtually Fusioun, the spectator becomes an active participant in the interactive installation, creating both its auditory and visual content. In this way, the role of the spectator in completing a work of art is made explicit. Based on the sounds made by the participant as well as some ambient sound, the installation generates musical notes to which the participant can supplement effects by manipulating the keyboard available for this purpose. As part of a video projection, the installation then translates the generated notes and effects into colours and visual patterns, which are superimposed upon the real-time image of the participant interacting with the installation.
