Text
This work is a series of self-portraits taken over a period of days during the first moments after awakening. It is composed of both photographs and a video.
The images depict an unguarded and intimate moment in which one normally remains unobserved. Not only is it a moment not normally revealed to the world, but it is one during which many people may hardly look at themselves.
An intention behind creating the photos during the first moments after awakening was to obtain images of a moment when one is not posing before the camera. The result though ironically conveys a strong sense of theatricality.
The photographic images, fixed images, partially convey the movement of the moment, while the video, moving images, reflects the fact that movement upon awakening is frequently a bit slow and not yet entirely conscious.
